This substantial Victorian era building in Middleton was for many years a hotel, a popular local, and latterly a Jewish boys’ school. The challenge now is to remodel the internal layout of the structure to match the needs of contemporary office users, and to substantially add to the building at its rear.
The most radical aspect of The Belmont scheme is the complete removal of the back elevation – which extends to 4 storeys high. This has required careful temporary works planning and design, and subsequent support of the structure while a 2-storey extension and connected steel frame are built.
With the extension and supporting structure complete, work on transforming the old building’s interior has followed.
Ultimately, this project is all about removing the original sectionalised Victorian layout of rooms, and creating a large open plan interior specifically designed for modern office use.
It’s often the case that when dealing with heritage properties constructed long before building regulations existed, complexity and unforeseeable challenges tend to be the norm. The Cassel & Fletcher team has the expertise, flexibility and experience to work through these challenges and to efficiently resolve any issues that have arisen.
Externally from the street-side perspective, the imposing Victorian façade will remain unchanged, giving a much-loved local landmark a new role and a secured future into the 21st century.
