BACKGROUND
Cassel & Fletcher acquired this town centre property from Homes England in 2018. The Tenters Street premises is a former Magistrates Court, closed earlier in the same year by the Ministry of Justice.
The building is clearly an unusual subject for residential conversion. The team at Cassel & Fletcher and our architect partners MDA have risen to the challenge, and created a format that will give the structure a new lease of life for the future. What was potentially a ‘white elephant’ in the centre of Bury can now become a real asset to the town, providing quality homes for local people.
THE SCHEME
We are the lead contractor on the scheme, which will see the existing structure converted into thirty nine apartments, and the construction of ten separate 3-bedroom dwellings – the latter providing large family homes for the local market.
The former court building is being converted over two levels to offer twenty two 1-bedroom and seventeen 2-bedroom apartments. Parking will be provided at the rear of the premises and accessed from Walshe Street.
